The chain includes 28 hotels in 15 countries and controls a fund of 13,000 rooms in Singapore, Zurich, Beijing, Chicago, Berlin and other major cities of the world. The headquarters of the network is located in Zurich, Switzerland, and is headed by the President, Meinhard Hook. The Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts chain was founded in 1980 in Zurich by Swiss companies Swissair and Nestlé. The first hotels of the chain opened in Bern, Geneva, New York and Zurich. In 1990, the hotel chain came under the full control of Swissair, and in 1996 the headquarters of the chain moved from Zurich to New York. In 2001, due to serious financial difficulties in Swissair, the Swissotel chain was sold to Raffles Holding, which owns the famous Raffles Hotel in Singapore.
